Fatty Crab Restaurant @ Taman Megah, PJ

Restaurant Fatty Crab Sdn. Bhd. (PORK & ALCOHOL FREE)
No 2, Jln SS 24/13 ,
Taman Megah,
47301 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor, Malaysia

Tel: 03-7804-5758

Fatty crab in Taman Megah had been well established and known to many people. One of hot spot for all Malaysian including Malays because had been certified as Halal restaurant (Per verification this is not Halal Certified). Due to overwhelming response from customers, the management need to streamline their menu and only serve limited choices of dishes. Their specialty includes:
  • Sweet and sour sauce crab

  • Steam crab

  • Steam fish teow-chew style

  • Chicken satay

  • Signature fried rice

  • Fried chicken wings

  • Toast bread
As you can see, the place is crowded with customers outside waiting and some on stools.

Signature Fried Rice (Average)
- signature does not always means nice, in my perception is just ordinary plain fried rice -

Spicy sour Crab (Great)
- have to admit, they have their own style and taste of spicy sour crab which will just continue eating -

Toast Bread
- make sure you enjoy the toast bread with the spicy sour sauce -

Overall, its quite pricy for the portion and limited choices available in Fatty Crab thus if would want to taste varieties will choose other locations instead.

Hi Adam (Anonymous),

Thanks for the valuable comment on the HALAL certification issue. We would apologize if there is any misleading information.

For now, we had send a message to Fatty Crabs management to inquire about the HALAL certification. We will wait for their reply before any necessary action to be taken from our side.

However, in their website, they have written the following which we presume they are HALAL (this doesn't mean that they have the certification):

"All of our food on the menu is ABSOLUTELY PORK FREE AND ALCOHOL FREE."

Feel free to look into their website for further information.

Thanks for the comments and we really appreciate your sharing.

Hi there,

Any feedback from fatty crab on the halal cert?. Anyway EVEN IT IS PORK FREE OR ALCOHOL FREE it doesnt mean it is halal. Any food can become non halal if when cooking using ingrident that is non halal. There are ingerident hat is non halal or doesnot have halal cert that can be used and this will make the whole food non halal.

Hi Anonymous,

I believe you are the one who comment previously (Adam).. Thanks for the follow up. There are lots of queries in Halal Certification on this restaurant. However, our posting previously stated is a certified Halal. However, we manage to find that it is not Halal. We sincerely apologize our mistake.

i believe the shop could not get the halal certificate because they want to serve alcoholic drink on the premise... not becos the food contain non halal ingredient...
since no alcohol or pork is used while cooking the crab, im very confident that the crab are halal...

Hi bondai,

For Muslim, restaurant with Halal certification is very important as it is a practice. However, it is up to individual whether to have their food there or not. No one can control this at all... :)

Eat with suspect. Halal requires food separation be made in their kitchen at the same time there is a need to verify all their food source are halal. For instant, without the cert, their crabs can be stored together with pork from supplier or spills of beer on their food or utensils, how is that ever going to be halal even if it's pork free? They don't serve does not mean their food is clean and safe to eat. I would suggest Muslim to refrain from this place. Their Chinese auntie attitude does not seem to care about clients, what makes you think they will care for Muslims requirements to be halal? Food for thought.

Bondai, The crab is definitely halal to eat.. But how does it being prepared? Did you see the ketchup or ingredient they used? What if the ketchup or sauce or other ingredient used are having pork inside?
