Sek Hou @ Times Square, KL

If you wonder where to get some Hong Kong food in Time Square and started to get bored of those typical Hong Kong food around ?
Then you must try Restaurant Sek Hou, located in Time Square 4th floor and near GSC ticket counter.
They not only sell special food that you can't easily find but also they are cheap.
Mixed Chicken Rice (Gong Po and Sweet Sour)
Price range per person around RM 15 for food

Lou Por Paeng (Candied Winter-Melon Pastry)

250g candied winter-melon strips (tung kwa), chopped
60g sesame seeds, toasted
65g castor sugar
80g commercialised cooked glutinous rice flour (koh fun)
120ml water
2 tbsp oil Water dough:
150g high protein flour, sifted
150g plain flour
2 tbsp castor sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
100g shortening
1/4 tsp vanilla essence
150ml water

Oil dough
120g plain flour, sifted
100g shortening

Egg glaze
1 egg mixed with 1/8 tsp salt, lightly beaten

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix well to blend. Divide mixture into 60g for each portion of filling.

Water dough Combine all ingredients together to form a smooth dough. Leave aside to rest for 30 minutes. Divide dough into equal portion pieces.

Oil dough
Rub shortening into flour until well blended. Wrap with cling film wrap and rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Divide dough into equal portions. Put oil dough inside water dough and wrap up. Press and roll out dough into a longish flat piece. Roll up Swiss roll-style, then roll out flat with a small rolling pin into a circular piece. Wrap a piece of filling in the centre. Roll the wrapped dough flat again. Prick the surface lightly with a fork and brush with egg glaze. Sprinkle with a little sesame seeds. Arrange pieces of prepared pastry on a lightly greased baking tray. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.

375g black gram dhal
1/2 tbsp plain flour
1 ½ tbsp rice flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1 onion, finely diced
1 tsp meat curry powder
2 green chillies, seeded and chopped
1 stalk curry leaves (use leaves only) chopped

Soak dhal for 2 – 3 hours. Drain and blend two-thirds into a paste in an electric food processor. Leave the one-third portion aside.Combine the ground paste with the unground portion. Add in flour, rice flour, salt and sugar, curry powder, onion, green chilli and curry leaves. Mix well into a dough.Take a small portion and shape into balls. Flatten them into patties and deep-fry in hot oil until crispy and golden.

Quick Fix Omelette

3 eggs2 tbsp fresh milk
salt and pepper to taste
100g streaky beef bacon – sliced thinly
2 stalks spring onions – chopped
1 stalk coriander leaves – chopped
1 onion – diced
1 medium tomato – diced
2 tbsp butter/ vegetable oil

Beat the eggs with the milk, salt and pepper. In a pan, heat up the butter or vegetable oil and saute the beef bacon, chopped greens, onion and tomato until soft. Turn the heat to medium, then pour the eggs over the ingredients in the pan. Let it set for a minute or so, then reduce the heat. Slowly scramble the eggs and ensure it is cooked properly. Dish up and serve with rice or bread.

Rendang Fried Rice

3 cups cooked rice
leftover rendang
6 cloves garlic - minced
3 stalks spring onions - sliced thinly
4 eggs
2 tbsps oyster sauce
2 tbsps vegetable oil/ butter
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat the vegetable oil or butter in a wok and scramble the eggs. Put aside. Saute the garlic in the remaining oil until fragrant, then add the leftover rendang. Fry the rendang until it is a little dry, then add the rice, oyster sauce, salt and pepper. Cook until all the rice is well mixed and dry. Add the scrambled eggs and spring onions, dish up and serve.

It is located just behind the McDonald’s drive-in, this place is popular for breakfast. Peak hours are from 8.30am to 10.30am. On weekdays, the customers are mostly civil servants; on weekends, families fill the place. It is usually packed, so expect a queue for a seat or opt to bungkus (take away). Owner Miyah Wan Chik relocated from Klang to set up this stall 30 years ago. She still does the daily marketing and cooking. Her nasi lemak is priced from RM1.50 for the basic version containing rice, anchovy sambal, cucumber and half a hard-boiled egg. The price goes up with the addition of squid, chicken or kupang (shellfish). The rice is fragrant and not too rich and the sambal is spicy with a tinge of sweetness. Malay kuih and roti canai are available for breakfast and tea. Rice with dishes is served for lunch and dinner.

The business began as a small stall in the 1970s selling siew pau behind the Bank Bumiputra in Seremban. Some 30 years down the road, Seremban Siew Pau has become a household name with over 100 franchisees nationwide (mostly in coffee shops). This siew pau stands out because of its flaky pastry and generous sweet-savoury filling of either pork or chicken. It’s best eaten hot, accompanied by a steaming cup of coffee. The first batch of siew pau comes out of the oven at 7.30am every day and the place is at its busiest in the afternoon. Other Chinese pastries available include egg tarts, kaya puffs and salted egg crisps. The shop – located just below the Seremban Siew Pau headquarters – also serves noodles, rice dishes and herbal teas.

This curry mee stall at the junction of Jalan Assumption and Jalan Chain Ferry has been around for 20 years. The gravy is a delicate white concoction with a base of thin coconut milk that is livened up with Bee Tin’s signature aromatic chilli paste, which has the flavour of curry powder. It’s so popular that some customers ask for double helpings. In typical Penang style, a bowl comes garnished with pig blood cubes, prawns and bean curd puffs.

Just to celebrate my Birthday this month, my parents brought me to the Vogue Restaurant in Renaissance Hotel KL.

They serve buffet after 6:30pm.

The appetizer they serve...

Basically, the restaurant do serve food like mini lobster, scallops, salmon fish, and etc. It can actually be considered as one of the quite high class restaurant to dine-in.

The food are just nice and taste decent. I can say it is worth the money you pay. If you are the desert lover, they do serve Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream and cakes.

This place is being introduced by a local tv show "Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan". My girlfriend and I decided to try it out where it is newly open at Taipan. It is situated at the same row with Old Town White Coffee. The place is nice and comfortable. The food is great especially the Sambal Fish Rice. My girlfriend like the Fried Kuay Teow and the Penang Chee Cheong Fun. It's worth to dine there.

This place being introduce to me by my colleague, Shanice. We (includes Jennifer, Wai Sun, Shanice, Mahendra and myself) went to Restoran Kin Kin for our lunch. This is not my first time to have Pan Mee. However, is my first time to each Chilli Pan Mee. I try without chilli first ~ the taste was good and later with chilli ~ which I don't quite like the taste of the chilli. It is a great experience having lunch with them. Looking forward for more famous and delicious food from them.

Dined at the New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur last weekend. It’s a branch of a famous restaurant (in Gasing, PJ) which has been operating since 1977; this one was opened a couple of years ago. This place is suggested by Wai Sun & Stephanie. 7 of us (includes Stephanie, Wai Sun, Eng Eng, Yu Lian, Mahendra, Jennifer and myself) went for lunch together. We order the famous Poached Chicken, Taugeh (Bean Sprout), Meat Balls & Fish Balls and not to forget the Roast Pork which is really crispy.
