Snacks @ Shilin Night Market, Taiwan

Shilin Night Market
Shihlin District, Taipei City,
Taiwan 111

Food2Buzz welcome the famous and often considered to be the largest night market in Taipei. Shihlin Night Market encompasses varieties of stalls selling eatable and non-eatable stuffs. The food court in Shilin Market have approximately 500 over stalls that being favour among local resident as well as visitor alike.

But do you all know that the original Shilin market was demolished in October 2002 due to safety and fire hazards concern. Most of the vendors being relocated to a newer structure next to Metro Jiantan Station which is where I visited. Going back further, Shilin market was formally established in 1909 only during daytime. Due to overwhelming response from both the vendors and customers, many business being established throughout the day and night time and where Shihlin Night Market is formed.

Normally once people pointed foods in Shilin or Taiwan will sure to be couple as follows:
  • fried chicken steak & deep fried chicken fillet
  • oyster omelet
  • pearl milk tea
  • stinky tofu
  • peanut candy
  • lemon aiyu jelly
  • oyster vermicelli
  • sausages
So without further a due, let me share with you some of the irresistible foods I have in Shihlin Market that you should really try when you visit.

Taiwan Sausages (Sensational)
[Highly Recommended]
- be sure to try their local sausages which you will notice its quite different from Malaysia. Sausages in Taiwan comes in variety shape and sizes which I find it taste better -

Pearl Milk Tea (Great)
- pearl milk powder used both in Taiwan and Malaysia is quite similar thus the taste does not bring much difference yet is still something you shouldn't miss -

Herbal Pork (Great)
[Recommended]
- If you are a pork or Ba Kut Teh lover, be sure to try this and as it is also known as the Taiwan Ba Kut Teh but it taste more herbal in it -

Deep Fried Baby Crab (Sensational)
[Recommended]
- beautifully salted and deep fried where you can have the whole thing together with its crispy shell -

Overall, the culture in Taiwan night market and local Malaysia night market are very much similar. However, Taiwan night market edge better in terms of completeness, varieties and scale of the night market where is strategically located between shop houses mostly in central cities and towns. Is like a one stop outdoor convenient stores where you can find stretch of foods along the streets of the market.

Stay tuned for more Taiwan Snacks recommendation in the next post on 28 August 2011. I will then share with you what are the snacks that is uncommon, new and not very appetizing to try it.

Tou Tou @ Sri Petaling

Tou Tou Little Kitchen
No.67, Jalan Radin Bagus
Zone J5, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling
Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia

Introducing to you concept style noodle house which found newly open in Sri Petaling. Its located along the shop lot where Old Town White Coffee Sri Petaling is so just drive along the stretch and you will not miss it.

At first, me though that the shop was related to the famous "Tou Tou" in travel and food programs at first sight. The shop only serve noodles and you can choose between their homemade noodles or ordinary mee hoon/keow teow. Besides, there are 5 types of noodle servings which includes dry, soup, curry, smooth soup, and special.

The lighting inside the restaurant is rather dim and simple design concept being used giving customer some rural atmosphere tasting traditional noodles

Pork Belly Little Noodle [RM6.80]
- according to the waiter, the noodle is homemade and the braised pork belly is chef's special recipe -

Braised Chicken Feet Little Noodle [RM6.80]
- the braised chicken fee rather tough so not that nice -

Pork Ball Keow Teow in Smooth Soup [RM5.80]
- the smooth soup is rather ordinary -

Prawn Ball Little Noodle in Smooth Soup [RM7.80]
- The prawn ball taste better than the pork ball, I feel -

Overall, don't find the place attractive even though we tried most of their specialty so only rated as follows.
