Mushroom Quiche (Courtesy from Picnic Idea)

This picnic food is easy to make and is very nutritious. In French cuisine it is called quiche and in Italian it is known as frittata. The main ingredients are eggs, the rest (not less important) are mushrooms, veggies, cheese, and spices. You can add to it bacon or sausage cubes or chicken fillet to your taste.

Preparation and cooking takes about half an hour; yields: 4.

Ingredients

3 tablespoons olive oil (extra-virgin)

8 oz thinly sliced mushrooms (assorted)

1 fresh mild chile pepper (large)

1 cup chopped spring onions (or 0.5 cup chopped chives)

6 free-range eggs (large)

2 tablespoons fresh cilantro (chopped)

0.5 teaspoon of ground cumin

1/3 cup crumbled feta

Seasoning: salt and black pepper

Note: steam the chile then seed and finely slice it.

Method

Have the oven preheated to 400F (200C, Gas Mark 6). Place a saucepan (or deep frying pan) over medium-high heat, pour the olive oil, allow to heat. Add sliced mushrooms; sauté for several minutes till softened. Add chopped mild chile and continue to cook for 4-5 mins till turned slightly brown. When done add spring onions, sprinkle with pepper and salt to taste; set aside.

Crack the eggs into a bowl, whisk well. Add cumin and chopped cilantro, sprinkle with seasoning (salt and pepper). Return the saucepan (or a frying pan) over medium heat and then drizzle the whisked and seasoned eggs over the mushrooms, stir to incorporate well. Evenly dust on top the feta flakes. Pan-fry for a couple of minutes till cooked at the bottom. Place the pan into the oven for another 8-10 mins till eggs cook through. When done set aside for a while.

Using a spatula carefully transfer the mushroom quiche from the pan onto a warm platter.

Tip: If you are for a more spiced picnic food add hot chile, basil, oregano, tomatoes, onion, peppercorns, and bell pepper. Also you may experiment with adding ham or sausage and have it all topped with mozzarella – just as a full Italian pizza. Adding some sour cream and milk into the whisked eggs will splendidly plump the quiche. Bon Appetite!

Ah Hua Prawn Mee @ Larut Matang, Taiping

Ah Hua Prawn mee
Stall 79, Cashier Market,
Larut Matang,
34000 Taiping,
Perak.

Probably some may say Penang prawn mee is the best but you will be surprise the best one I tasted so far is actually from Taiping. All ingredients like the fried spring onions, the sambal paste, the most important special prawn soup and other sides are being prepare by the cook, Ah Hua himself daily.

As you realise, the soup is quite clear and less oily as compare to others but the taste will just savor your taste with strong prawn essence. Upon mixed with the right spoonful of Sambal will just bring great spiciness to chilly lovers like me. Don't worry to ask for more sambal if you are a chilly devil.

Of cause, at Cashier Market you will just find other foods that suit your mood to eat for the day like some below that I have tried so far...

Fried Kuih Lobak

Kueh Teow Soup

Fried Kueh Teow

The prawn mee just simply sensational as compare the all those I have tasted so far because normally I get only oil or just the chilly taste in the soup without much prawn essence in it unlike this.

During my travel to Xi Men Ting, Taiwan I'm lucky to try one of the Taiwan famous flour rice noodle or commonly know as mee sua. Didn't really know bout it when I first try it before I google bout it on the net after I return.

They have three (3) branch which one located in Xi Men Ting (the place I tried), Shilin and Xinyi District. Basically, they had been in operating since 1975 according to the site serving authentic vermicelli (thin noodle).

As you see, pools of people enjoying the noodle even they have to sit only on stools without tables even some have to stand

You will not miss this name..!!!

The chef of the day, very much combining all the things together but watching his skills pouring the hot soup was quite entertaining :)

Mee Sua with basil and fresh oysters (Sensational)
- The silk-like thin noodle is stewed with the large intestine of pleasant smell, the dried bonito, and the sliced bamboo shoot etc. When you are to enjoy it, add a pinch of sliced parsley or basil, and seasoned a little bit Ay-Chung specially-made chilly sauce is recommended -

Mee Sua is like one of many Taiwan delicacies that you shouldn't miss so do pick one of their branch and try it yourselves. I'm sure is quite different from those you tried locally.

Trying something new!!! I found this place which is crowded with people almost every night...I come in and look for fresh seafood and know what!! The seafood is really fresh and lots of variety!!!

All you need to do is get a sit and order you drinks first...maybe some starters like keropok ikan to kill time as you need to wait about 30 minutes before your "bakar" is served on your table...

Keropok Ikan as starter (RM3.00)
Taste great but it will be better if goes with "Kampung Koh Chilly Sauce"

Various sauces for the "bakar"

Stingray Bakar (RM7.00 per 100 gram)
This cost me RM24.10 which is quite expensive and a bit disappointed with their sambal sauce

Squid Bakar (RM14.00)
The taste is just the same as they use the same sauce...

Lala Bakar (RM11.00)
The taste is just the same as they use the same sauce...

Sirap Limau Ice & Teh O Ice
This is to quench our thirst...

Complimentary fruits after the dinner...
